International Master Jack Peters
continues to help promote & inform the public about chess in his weekly LA Times chess column. For the past two years, he has visited Cp to give very informative and entertaining lectures on chess.
Senior Master Eduardo Ortiz, a former Philippine Olympian, is always ready to share his vast knowledge of the game with chess enthusaists of all ages. Currently Chesspalace members are fortunate to have him on board, giving advance instructions and lectures at the club. Joseph Scherzinger's kind heart and friendly smile always brighten any newcomers welcome at the club. If you just wish to have a friendly game or the latest chess stories, you can be sure "Joe" will be the first to volunteer. His enthusiasm and support of the club are invaluable Chesspalace assets. Ped Bashi travels about 50 miles every weekend just to play at Chesspalace. For the past 7 years, his absence only total a handful. As a music teacher, he now encourages his students to also take up chess. Not surprisingly, this teacher already has a several students who are making their marks in the chess scene!

Rain or shine, you're sure to find one of these guys at the club during the weekends. Their continued support allows Cp to continue doing what it does best-- provide a friendly atmosphere where everyone can enjoy this royal game! Sam Garcia ia always present in the club. His persistent promotion of Cp has allowed many nascent enthusiasts from around the community to learn about Cp.
We just hope we can get him to play more often!!
Randy Hough: This ever-present national tournament director is always available to lend his expertise on any chess matter. His support in promoting Chesspalace has been invaluable. A warning though, this amiable character is not so affable over the chess board! Jovan Propkjovic: World-renowned cartoonist from Yugolasvia. His artistic contribution to the chess world has benefited many over the years. You can also appreciate many of his masterpieces at Chesspalace. Many of his artwork are currently available for sale @ the CP-- World Champions posters, calendars, caricatures, etc. for a limited time only.
As always, the amount of space to acknowledge the multitude of gracious supporters are always insufficient. Nevertheless these people and many other deserve as much recognition:
Dan Alvira promotes chess through his scholastic chess programs around the community. Despite his busy schedule, he always take time not only to improve his own game but also help other youths improve theirs. He has organized several events for kids @ Cp. He is also often found assisting in Cp scholastic events. Mike Henebry, a world record super marathon runner!, can always be found at the Wednesday Knights event. Also a board member of the LaPalma chess club, his energy and spirit in promoting Southern California chess exudes a selfless devotion to the game. Celia Ong is the mother of the Ong chess family. Whenever you are looking for exceptional service with your search for that perfect chess gift, her smile is always ready as she assists you. Whatever you need, ask for Mrs. Ong and you're guaranteed great service for great deals!
