Club Supporters & Patrons

This Page acknowledges the Chess Palace patrons who through their selfless endeavors for chess exemplify the spirit of what Chess Palace is all about. (updated Aug 17th, 2010)

Tom Medrek's assistance to promoting chess for scholastic players has benefited High School teams, title I schools, and underprivileged youths. His financial support proves nothing can come between a child and his/her desire to excel in chess. Richard Henri's continuous support in weekly events has tremendously made a lasting impact on the club. He shows his support with a constant consideration for the well-being of others. Dr. Neil Bershad is always ready to give a lending hand, whether it is financial or moral support, Neil makes sure the the club is being maintained properly. Yale Warsaw's generosity is a rare kind. His appreciation for the club brightens any organizers day. He helps keep the club running when everyone else is busy. His efforts to welcome new customers and players to the club can always be seen in different ways.
Dr. Richard Martin promotes chess through the club's scholastic chess programs. At the moment his contributions to the Scholarship program is assisting some of the top players in the State! Randy Hough: This ever-present national tournament director is always available to lend his expertise on any chess matter. His support in promoting Chesspalace has been invaluable. A warning though, this amiable character is not so affable over the chess board! Joseph Scherzinger's kind heart and friendly smile always brighten any newcomers welcome at the club. If you just wish to have a friendly game or the latest chess stories, you can be sure "Joe" will be the first to volunteer. His enthusiasm and support of the club are invaluable Chesspalace assets. Patrick Avery's generosity was demonstrated through a donation of chess books. The revenue for its resale are helping pay the rising costs of running a low income business with sky rocketing rental fees typical in Southern Calif.

RC Rice has contributed to the Chess Palace long before it the
Ongs took over. His thoughtfulness and advice goes a long way in keeping the doors open for future players.
International Master Jack Peters
continues to help promote & inform the public about chess in his weekly LA Times chess column. For the past two years, he has visited Cp to give very informative and entertaining lectures on chess.
Shawn Williams overall support of the chess club has been going on ever since we can remember. From being a regular store customer to direct donation of used books, his contributions keeps our doors open to serve all. Russ Ryan's donations has been of great value to the club. Hopefully in the near future the actual chess books library will be ready up and running.

Dr. Shreyas Gandhi contributed directly to help the on-going chess club activities. Mid-year in 2010, an increase in rental fees threatened the club's ability to keep entry fees low. His donation made it possible. Also his son, Shyam, is one of the rising stars that frequents success amongst the best.
